Free Delivery Day is brought to you by the founders of Free Shipping Day in the U.S. Now in it’s fourth year, this one-day event allows shoppers to order from hundreds of online merchants offering free delivery by Christmas Eve.
The American shopping event jumped the big pond to bring shoppers in the U.K. the same holiday savings as enjoyed by their U.S. counterparts.
Free Shipping Day and Free Delivery Day are the creation of Luke Knowles, who also founded the highly successful FreeShipping.org and FreeDelivery.org that has burgeoned into more than 10 frugality-related websites. In 2008, Knowles and his then-tiny cadre organized the initial event in just two hectic weeks, after realizing merchants would rejoice in the opportunity to extend holiday deadlines for online shopping.
Knowles intrinsically understood procrastinating consumers would also appreciate the chance to shop later in the year, but do so without physically facing the maddening crowds.
In the past four years, the reaction to Free Shipping Day has been brilliant, resulting in the 2010 event becoming the third-heaviest day of online shopping in U.S. history. The $954 million spent across the Internet during last year’s holiday was an increase of nearly 60% over the previous year.
Merchants and media also have responded en mass. Free Shipping Day is regularly featured by major media outlets and regional publications alike. All rapidly latched on to this trend-setting shopping holiday.
The Free Delivery Day team looks forward to further providing U.K. shoppers with this last-gasp chance to shop online and know their purchase will reach its destination by Christmas Eve.
